During the times of the British Raj, this was an exclusive hotel, known for its fabulous ballroom dances and fashionable clientele. 130 years later, this elegant, restored grand heritage hotel retains much of its colonial charm.
Located at the quieter end of the bustling Mall Road, near the Viceroy Lodge, The Oberoi Cecil is announced by a crisp, white façade and smart, green terrace railings. Inside, a lobby punctuated with marble fireplaces leads guests to a comfortable lounge, which is lit from above by a skylight that spans the length and breadth of the hotel's signature atrium.
Room
Located off richly carpeted corridors that encircle the expansive, sky-lit atrium, our rooms and suites afford fantastic views across our terraced garden, towering cedar trees or the Shimla valley. Each room is decorated in classic colonial style, with a king-size bed, Burmese teak floorboards, ottoman and leather topped bureau desk. Our well-lit bathrooms, tiled in deep red granite and evergreen marble, are fitted with a full-length bathtub and vari-pressure shower.
Luxury Suite
Our Luxury Suites are tastefully decorated with a king-size bed, adorned with a unique, two-poster burnished brass and upholstered headboard, Victorian style ottoman, white candelabra bedside lamps and leather topped writing bureau. Antique plates, coins and ornately carved wood blocks adorn the walls.
From the comfort of a Luxury Suite, guests can take in views of the sweeping mountains and cedar rich valley, original Shimla railway line and Cart Road - where distinguished ladies would have been driven out to take the air, see-and-be-seen in fashionable, colonial Shimla.
Deluxe Suite
From the elaborate brass ornamented, two-poster king-size bed, to the crested two-seater sofa and gold armchairs in the living room, this suite exudes colonial style. The suite is panelled throughout with rich teak floorboards and crowned with a deep red granite and evergreen marble bathroom.
Located at the front of the hotel, our Deluxe Suites are filled with refreshing views of lofty cedars. Guests can take a seat by the window in a comfortable armchair, or step outside onto their private terrace to enjoy the fragrance of the cedars and views along Shimla's iconic Mall Road.
Premier Valley View Rooms
The centrepiece of this room is a two-poster bed - designed exclusively for Oberoi - topped with a verdant green upholstered headboard and piled with pillows. Sitting squarely at the end is a Victorian style ottoman, and in the corner, a leather topped writing desk and smartly carved antique style chair.
From the windows of our Premier Valley View Rooms, guests can enjoy uninterrupted panoramas of the dramatic Shimla valley, cloaked in evergreen cedar trees, in whose branches monkeys play. Relax indoors in the comfort of an armchair or step onto the terrace (in some rooms) and watch the weather roll dramatically over the valley.
Luxury Room
Colonial cavalry and flag designs pervade the furnishings of this room. Smart armchairs and curtains are upholstered in classically striped fabric, polished teak floor panels mimic regimental lines and pictures of British cavalrymen and their flags are captured in frames on the walls.
The windows of our Luxury Rooms are filled with views of lofty cedar trees, standing tall as sentries across Shimla. Guests may nestle into the comfort of an armchair, enjoy 24-hour dining in the comfort of their room and look out over the calm and serenity that pervade this romantic valley.
Deluxe Room
Features such as the polished wooden floor boards and charming brass railed luggage space lend a subtle colonial charm to this room. Guests may take a seat at the teak writing bureau or relax in an armchair beside the antique style, mother-of-pearl inlaid coffee table and enjoy the authentic ambience.
Located at the front of the hotel, our Deluxe Rooms have views onto the cedar garden and some have access to a private terrace whose smart, green railings compliment the crisp, white façade of the hotel. Guests may stand here and picture Shimla in colonial times, when fashionable ladies would have stood here being admired from the Mall Road.
