Tupelo is the birthplace of the “King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley. The little frame house is now the showpiece of a memorial park dedicated to the King, and Elvis fans, on a holiday in Mississippi, throng to Tupelo to worship at the altar of their God.
Tupelo is more than just a launch pad for exploring the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is a town that is steeped in history, one that is littered with battles and defined by bloodshed and brutality. The sites of the battles between the Chickasaw Indians, Native American nations, Europeans, and the Union and Confederate forces at various points in history are carefully preserved here. As is a little frame house just off Hwy 78.
