The most dangerous places in the world revealed – and the safest

The UK is as safe as Iran when it comes to security!

25th Nov, 2018
The Travel Risk Map has just been published, and what it reveals is very interesting. As would be expected, most developed countries including most of Europe, the USA and Australia are rated as low risk destinations. A surprise within this list is the addition of Iran where the overall risk to tourists is on par with the UK and Europe!

In charting the level of risks, factors such as the robustness of the transport infrastructure, the state of industrial relations, the effectiveness of the security and emergency services and the country’s susceptibility to natural disasters are also taken into consideration. The hierarchy of risk categories starts from insignificant and moves to low, medium, high and extreme. The countries in the Middle East with a low risk include Jordan, Oman, Qatar and the UAE.

Unfortunately, whilst overall risks to tourists are low in Iran, the country scores very badly for road safety where it sits at the bottom of the 5 categories.

Interestingly, the countries with the lowest level of risk, rated as insignificant, are Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Greenland. These countries also fall into the safest countries for road safety as well as the lowest risk for medical issues. This is certainly good news for our clients in the UK as all these countries are on our doorstep and just a shortfall flight away!

Iran is developing following rapidly following the 2015 international agreement and offers some of the most fascinating sites in the Middle East. We hope to be able to launch a touring programme to Iran in the not to distant future.
