On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm). This afternoon join your Driver Guide for a drive around the base of Uluru. Continue to the Kuniya Walk, where you’ll be escorted to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. View ancient rock art and learn about the flora and fauna and the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to see Aboriginal arts and crafts. Late this afternoon travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying nibbles and sparkling wine.
Hotel choice: Desert Gardens Hotel, Sails in the Desert Hotel or Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort
Outback Pioneer
Outback Pioneer Hotel offers comfortable air-conditioned rooms, less than 15 km from Ayers Rock (Uluru). It includes a garden with a barbecue area and an outdoor swimming pool.
Each room at Outback Pioneer Hotel includes tea/coffee making facilities and a private bathroom.
The Bough Restaurant serves a traditional Australian breakfast each morning, featuring Australian cuisine and regional dishes.
Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee. After the gorgeous sunrise at Uluru, travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek bed between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. This afternoon travel through beautiful and rugged scenery, as your Driver Guide talks about key landmarks, while sharing some local history and stories on the many sights you’ll pass en route. You’ll be amazed at the sight of Atila (Mt. Conner). Often mistaken for Uluru, it’s a distinctive flat-topped mountain that rises 300 metres above the desert sand. There’s time for an afternoon tea break (own expense) at Erldunda Roadhouse before arriving in Alice Springs.
